Do's and Dont's in Tirupati

DO'S

  1. Please book your travel and accommodation in Tirumala through TTD in advance.
  2. Please pay obeisance to your Ishta Daivam or Kula Daivam before you start for Tirumala.
  3. Please bathe in the Pushkarini and worship Sri Varahaswami in His temple before you worship Lord Sri Venkateswara.
  4. Please bathe and wear clean clothes before you enter the temple.
  5. Please observe absolute silence inside the temple and chant Om Sri Venkatesaya Namah to yourself.
  6. Please bathe in the Papavinasanam and Akasa Ganga teerthams near Tirumala.
  7. Please respect ancient customs while at Tirumala.
  8. Please respect and promote religious sentiments among co-pilgrims.
  9. Please deposit your offerings in the hundi only.
  10. Please contact any of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Enquiry Offices for information regarding the temple and your worship there.
  11. Please pradakshinam (keeping the shrine to your right) with devotion before entering the temple.
  12. Please wear a tilak in accordance with your religious affiliation.
  13. Please follow the procedures of the temple and wait for your turn for the darshan of the Lord

DON'TS

  1. Please don't come to Tirumala for any purpose other than worshipping the Lord.
  2. Please don't carry too much jewellery or cash with you.
  3. Please don't eat non-vegetarian food. Please don't consume liquor or other intoxicants.
  4. Please don't approach strangers for accommodation.
  5. Please don't wear footwear, or move around in a vehicle, in and around the premises of the temple.
  6. Please don't rush in for darshan, but move along in the queue.
  7. Please don't approach touts for quick darshan.
  8. Please don't prostrate (sastanga danda pranamam) inside the temple.
  9. Please don't buy spurious prasadam from street vendors.
  10. Please don't throw away the prasadam and teertham given to you at the temple.
  11. Please don't enter the temple, if, according to custom or usage, you are prohibited to enter.
  12. Please don't wear flowers and garlands in Tirumala; all flowers are for the Lord only.
  13. Please don't encourage beggars.
  14. Please don't spit or be a nuisance inside the temple premises.
  15. Please don't enter the shrine naked or wearing only a loin-cloth
  16. Please don't wear any head gear like helmets, caps, turbans and hats inside the temple premises.
  17. Please don't carry any weapon inside the temple.
  18. Please don't eat food brought from outside or chew betel leaves in the temple premises.
  19. A person with physical or mental distress should not enter the temple.
  20. Please don't spit in the premises of the temple.
  21. Please don't sleep in the temple premises.
  22. Please don't commit any act of violence or harshness in the temple premises.
  23. Please don't quarrel in the temple premises.
  24. Please don't talk about your wealth, money and status.
  25. Please don't sit with your back facing the Deity.
  26. Please don't pay obeisance with only one hand.
